I'm 37 years old. My FSH levels ranges between 15 and 20 and my husband's motility gets low from one cycle to another. Does this mean that our best bet is IVF or do we still have a window of hope to try naturally?
FSH levels need to be measured on day three of one's cycle in order to be meaningful. Day one is usually the first day of normal menstrual flow, so day three would be the third day of menstrual flow. FSH levels vary enormously depending on where in one's cycle they are measured. A day 3 FSH under 10 usually indicates good egg reserve, a level between 11 and 13 is concerning and 14 and over may signify difficulty or inability to conceive with one's own egg. If one's day three FSH ranges between 15 and 20 there is not much chance of conceiving on one's own. It would be best to work directly with a Reproductive Endocrinologist for the best and most rapid results. The Reproductive Endocrinologist can test egg reserve in other ways as well, and help guide one as to the best chance for conception for that particular couple.
